Erykah Badu brings her New Amerykah tour to Massey Hall, Toronto

Neo-soul goddess Erykah Badu brought her New Amerykah tour to a sold-out Massey Hall in Toronto. This was a much better trip to Toronto for Badu as the last time through town she (along with Jill Scott and Queen Latifah) played the cold and cavernous Air Canada Center - the completely wrong venue for the voice and intimacy that Badu brings to the stage. Massey Hall continues to be the perfect venue for the simply divine star. ThePopVine contributors were not the only ones blown away by the concert. Toronto Sun’s Jane Stevenson gave the Badu show a 4.5 star review and had some nice words to describe the night;
“Anticipation for her dramatic stage entrance was slowly and expertly built with blue flashing light panels lit up behind her seven piece band, followed by the arrival of four luscious female back-up singers, dressed in revealing grey mini-dresses with orange sashes, and then finally Badu - a vision in head-to-toe-black including a black strapless dress, and a black netted cap underneath a feathered bowl-shaped hat, the latter which gave her a lot of trouble as the concert progressed… Just think of Badu as a cross between Billie Holiday and Bjork with her own unique twist.”

It was an incredible experience to witness Ms. Badu do her thing at Massey Hall last night. I got chills when she dropped the line, “Thank you for allowing me to share my creativity tonight.” It’s all about the art and music for Erykah.
I took this shot at the Erykah Badu merchandising stand they had set up at Massey Hall. I wonder who Ms. Badu will be voting for in the coming Presidential election???
BurgerCAM on the scene at the incredible Erykah Badu show. After the show, Erykah was kind enough to spend some time with fans who waited at the stage door for her Massey Hall exit. Check this vid… Erykah is saying goodbye to Toronto and heading to Montreal for a concert there tonight.
What an amazing concert experience last night. Erykah took the full house on a spiritual and emotional journey. She opened up the show doing a few choice cuts off New Amerykah, but then went into the Badu classics. On & On… My Life… every song was an experience.

The girls who met Erykah after the show had one simple message, “We love Erykah. She was sooo nice and amazing to see live.”
A number of vine readers mentioned this one part of the show that blew everybody away - Erykah strides off the stage and wades into the crowd to perform. She was taking pictures with people, climbed on some guys back and sticks the mic in his face, she gets some girls in the front row to sing the chorus. Very cool indeed.
