Valerie Bertinelli talks and signs her new autobiography “Losing It” at Indigo Books on Bloor St. Toronto
May 1, 2008
(March 11-08) Valerie Bertinelli made an appearance before a packed house at Indigo Books on Bloor St. Toronto. Bertinelli was in town to do a media blitz around her just published autobiography “Losing It - And Gaining My Life Back One Pound at a Time.” I think anybody who remembers Bertinelli on her breakthrough role on television’s One Day At A Time - had a crush on Barbara Cooper. We can further say that Mrs. Bertinelli is still looking quite hot and fit as she nears her 48th birthday. Before sitting down to sign books, Valerie took a bunch of questions from the audience. Questions ranged from one marriage proposal, to the pressures of being young and working in Hollywood, to the health status of her ex-husband Eddie Van Halen (who she says is still very close to.) The Toronto Star had published a lengthy Q&A with Bertinelli and summed up the day in this;
Today, Bertinelli is on the road promoting Losing It – And Gaining My Life Back One Pound at a Time, an unguarded autobiography that deals with her separation in 2001 from rock star Eddie Van Halen after 20 years of marriage, the weight gain that eventually led her to become a spokesperson for Jenny Craig and her devotion to 17-year-old musician son Wolfie, who has joined his father in the revamped Van Halen. With Eddie Van Halen in hospital for undisclosed tests, the start of the band’s current tour has been pushed back to March 11.

I admit, I was there for a peek at Ms. Valerie Bertinelli. I think she was my first television crush. Barbara Cooper was the hottest thing going on tv at that time. She looked real good at Indigo - totally had the smokin’ MILF thing going. That is, until the granny glasses came on during the book signing part of the evening. Suddenly, my tv crush seemed from a long, long time ago.
Somebody in the audience asked her about the pressures of working at a young age in Hollywood. How her parents kept her in check (the questions started by asked Valerie if Britney Spears mother did some things wrong.)
She was the same sweet-as-pie girl we all fell in love with on One Day At A Time. She stayed extra time at Indigo greeting fans and signing every book in the place. Love her!
