July 1, 2008

SHOVINE.COM (June 30-08) A beautiful warm summer night by the lake in Toronto. The aroma of freshly smoked ganga in the air. A Reggae legend about to take the stage. All the ingredients necessary for the perfect kick-off to the summer season at Harbourfront Centre, Toronto for the World Routes musical festival.

An overflowing capacity crowd turned up on this night to greet influential Reggae music god, Lee “Scratch” Perry who was making a rare concert stop in Toronto. Scratch Perry isn’t resting on his laurels either, which are many and include being an early producer of Bob Marley and an innovator in the studio with the turntable. Perry is about to release a new album of material - REPENTANCE that could even be exposed to a larger audience of people as his record label, Narnack Records has just inked a wider distribution deal with Lionsgate Entertainment. They obviously still see value in the Scratch Perry brand as they big him up in this June, 2008 press release.

Vice President of TV Music and A&R Russell Ziecker continued, “Our dealwith Narnack will expand our publishing outreach while providing us with morefirsthand resources for our film and television slots, utilizing Narnack’sdiverse, multi-genre, and independent-spirited label roster.”

Lee “Scratch” Perry is a Grammy(R) award-winning artist and producer whowas highly influential in the development and acceptance of reggae and dubmusic. In his infamous studio, The Black Ark, Perry produced some of the mostsignificant artists in the history of reggae including the legendary BobMarley & the Wailers. Beyond reggae, Perry worked with iconic rock group TheClash on their first LP in the US, producing the single COMPLETE CONTROL andco-writing the hit POLICE AND THIEVES. He was also featured on the (number sign)1 debutalbum HELLO NASTY by the Beastie Boys, who were involved with the newdocumentary THE UPSETTER: THE LIFE & MUSIC OF LEE “SCRATCH” PERRY. RollingStone has hailed Perry as “the first mad-scientist producer” and Blender namedthe epic musician one of their Top 50 Rock Geniuses of All Time.
